About this Adaptation:

This text is an attempt to caputure the spirit of Lao-Tzu's Tao in plain, modern English. It is not a literal translation from the original Chinese. Rather, it is an effort to make Taoist principles more accessible to a contemporary Western audience.

Tao is the first of the two books which make up the Tao Te Ching. Traditionally attributed to the ancient sage Lao-Tzu, it introduces basic Taoist concepts such as the unity of opposites, emptiness, actionless action, and non-violence.
